Proven Methods

At Poole and Kent we bring cutting edge building and design concepts to each project. Our experience as a premiere mechanical contractor for over half a century has enabled us to track and implement the proven methods in the design and installation of mechanical systems. The origins of our success can be attributed to key strengths within our organization such as pre-construction planning, scheduling, in-house fabrication, and design/build and design/assist processes. Additional information about these processes has been provided below.

Why do we believe in the Design/Build and/or Design/Assist approach?

It's simple. "Been there. Done that." Poole and Kent has completed multiple design/build and design/assist projects achieving optimum success. Past projects include the Institute for Genomic Research, the Life Sciences Research Facility for the Department of the Army, and the Celera Genomics Corporation DNA Sequencing Facility to name a few. The design/build and/or design/assist methods eliminate potential coordination issues, costly change order work, and ultimate impacts to the project schedule.

In-House Fabrication
Our fabrication facility furnishes us with the ability to control the production of fabricated materials, and also their delivery to the project sites. This results in reduced lead times for the delivery of piping spools and fabricated materials to our projects. This contributes to Poole and Kent's ability to adhere to stringent schedule milestones and function in the competitive marketplace of metropolitan Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Our in-house capabilities include, but are not limited to: ASME B31.1 Welding Capability, X-Ray Quality Welding, Roll Grooved Systems, Soldered Systems, Sil-Fos Systems, Threaded Systems, Electro-Polished Stainless Steel-Orbital Butt Welded Systems, PVDF and Polypropylene-Butt Fusion Systems, Hanger Systems, and Structural Steel Systems

The major equipment presently utilized for fabrication includes: cutting tables; plasma cutters; Victaulic mechanical grooving machines 24"; 36" positioners up to 60" (inches). semi-automatic dual feed 400 amp welding machines; threading machines; T-drill, tube, and spinner; 18" vertical band saw; Ironman/shear punch machine; drill press; ARC orbital butt welding machines; and Agru infrared butt fusion machines.

Scheduling Department
We recognize the vital role project tracking plays in the success of every project. We begin the scheduling process by developing a master procurement and construction schedule.

Our in-house scheduling department identifies the project milestones and critical areas where construction conflicts may exist. Their conclusions are developed into a detailed construction schedule. This schedule is then resource-loaded. Manpower curves are generated to identify any peaks and valley in the manpower. The manpower is leveled so that a more consistent work force can be kept on the project.

By assigning cost to each of the definable features of work, projected cash flow curves can be run. This also allows the schedule to be used for billing the owner.

Look-ahead schedules are run from the detailed construction schedule as well. This information is disseminated to all vendors, subcontractors, superintendents and foremen, enabling the field management to ensure that the material, equipment and proper manpower are in place when the work becomes available.

Engineering Department
Our Engineering Team is fluent in the latest design and construction concepts. Their knowledge of matters relating to design, construction, cost control, maintenance, operation, replacement, etc. is key in developing alternative material and design methods. We honor every opportunity to utilize value engineering and cost analysis to achieve the objectives established by the client.
