The Project
The Physical Sciences Laboratory project consisted of the construction of a 350,000 square foot laboratory, offsite heating and cooling facilities, high purity process piping system, and a state-of-the-art toxic and combustionable gas monitoring system.
PK Role
The Poole and Kent Corporation completed two integral roles in the completion of the Physical Sciences Laboratory - the role of Mechanical Contractor, and the role of design/assist High Purity Piping/Process Systems Specialist. Poole and Kent's scope of work included the installation of the following equipment/systems: (50) air handling units, 261,000 stainless steel exhaust system, 200,000 CFM general exhaust system, explosion-proof gas cabinet exhaust, building smoke pure exhaust system. As the high purity processing piping specialist, Poole and Kent was responsible for the design, coordination and installation of the 100 GPM , 18-megohm PVDF Infer Red Butt Fused Deionized water system. Over 40,000 linear feet of high purity electro-polished 316 stainless steel piping was in installed in the facility. Additionally, Poole and Kent facilitated the design and installation of the controls systems, sheet metal, and insulation.
Highlights/Challenges
The high purity prefabrication associated with this project was assembled in Poole and Kent's Class 10 Clean Room fabrication facility. Poole and Kent had established a variety of portable Class 100 Clean Room Enclosures for prefabrication work within the Physical Sciences building. Today, Poole and Kent provides facilities maintenance for the Physical Sciences facility in a joint venture with our EMCOR sister company, DeBra-Kuempel (Poole and Kent/DeBra-Kuempel Joint Venture). DeBra-Kuempel is a mechanical/electrical maintenance provider located in Cincinnati, Ohio.
