The Project
The France-Merrick Performing Arts Center involved the tie in of three historic landmark buildings - the Western National Bank, the Eutaw Savings Bank, and the original Hippodrome Theatre. The revival of the theatre is part of a plan to revitalize the West side of downtown Baltimore and vicinity.

PK Role
Poole and Kent performed as the mechanical contractor on this project installing the heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning system, which included: 14 standard and custom air handling units, and perimeter heating via VAV boxes with hot water reheat coils. Additionally, Poole and Kent provided automatic temperature controls, sheet metal, insulation, and water treatment.

Highlights/Challenges
The Notice to Proceed was delayed by approximately six months, reducing the project schedule from 24 to 18 months. Poole and Kent maintained an aggressive schedule to complete this project by the scheduled January 2004 completion date.

Due to the necessary historical preservation of the buildings, Poole and Kent was required to perform the HVAC installations in limited space in ceilings and shafts, and heavy field coordination was required to resolve space confinement issues. The careful workmanship of Poole and Kent craftsmen played a vital part in the successful preservation of the historical integrity of the buildings during construction.

In January 2004, the curtain rose for the grand opening of the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center. We are confident that spectators and performers alike will enjoy the comfort of this quality installation for many years (and shows) to come.
