The Project
A world-wide authority on medical research and healthcare, Johns Hopkins University and Hospital continue their explosive growth in the Baltimore/Washington region. With the construction of new and cutting edge facilities in both research and medicine, the Johns Hopkins health system will cement their position as a leading healthcare and research provider.
The Cancer Research Building II, part of Johns Hopkins' plan to develop their East Baltimore campus, includes 2 patient buildings, and numerous other support service buildings and parking facilities. The Cancer Research Building II is a 13-story, 272,000 square foot research facility containing BL-3 laboratories and a vivarium.
PK Role
Poole and Kent is completing the installation of the following mechanical systems: 9 custom air handling units, 12 heat recovery wheels, RODI water system, medical gas distribution, specialized laboratory exhaust serving a vivarium, lab fume hoods, sterilizers, animal cage wash equipment, and environmental cold rooms.
Highlights/Challenges
Poole and Kent has completed previous mechanical contracts for various Johns Hopkins facilities, including; the Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Broadway Research Building. We understand the complex design and construction issues associated with a first-class healthcare/research facility, and we continuously strive to resolve the coordination issues necessary to deliver the desired results.
We are confident the Cancer Research Building II project will provide Johns Hopkins with the mechanical systems for a superior research environment that will function with efficiency and durability for years of research achievement.
