The Project
A leading international hotel chain, the Mandarin Hotel Group sought to construct a 425,000 square foot, 400-room luxury hotel in downtown Washington, D.C. The new hotel features two restaurants, 34,000 square feet of meeting facilities, an 8,300 square foot ballroom, and spa and fitness facilities.

PK Role
The Poole and Kent Corporation completed the total mechanical scope of work on this prestigious hotel, including: HVAC, plumbing, and site utility work.

Highlights/Challenges
Poole and Kent provided temporary cooling through the new HVAC system in advance of the timeframe dictated by the original project schedule. This allowed significant architectural finishers to proceed in an aggressive manner.

The Notice to Proceed was delayed six months reducing the project schedule from 24 months to 18 months. Poole and Kent successfully maintained an aggressive project schedule, which contributed to the timely completion of the project.

In June 2004, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel opened its doors for business. The Mandarin Oriental Hotel is yet another aesthetically profound structure in the landscape of great architectural structures located in our Nation's Capital. In 2004, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel was rated Washington, D.C.'s number one luxury hotel (A great feat when the competition is taken into consideration).
