The Project
The Oriole Park/M&T Bank Stadium Chilled Water and Electric Generation Project consisted of 2,700 tons of installed chiller capacity located within Oriole Park, and 13,600 ton hours of thermal storage located underground on an adjacent property. The new chilled water system handles the demands of both of both stadiums as well as the Camden Warehouse providing a single chilled water facility, and saving the Owner substantial operation costs annually.
PK Role
On this project, Poole and Kent served in dual roles as the design/build general contractor and the mechanical contractor. Poole and Kent's scope of work encompassed the following installations: approximately 2,000 trench feet of fourteen-inch welded steel distribution piping for supply and return of 40-percent glycol chilled water (which was installed primarily under streets and sidewalks to connect to M&T Bank Stadium), (2) 1,825kW diesel generators, and paralleling switchgear.
Highlights/Challenges
The Oriole Park/M&T Bank Stadium Chilled Water and Electric Generation project was a fast-track project completed within a six month period. Poole and Kent assisted the Engineer in the design layout of the new systems to accommodate the existing structure at Oriole Park, and service the expanded capacity of the integrated system that includes M&T Bank Stadium.
