The Project
The Institute for Genomic Research (T.I.G.R.) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the research and development of the human genome. Due to expanding genomic research, TIGR sought to establish a state-of-the-art facility to provide scientists and researches with an impervious environment capable of housing volatile matters. The enhancements to the TIGR facilities included: a 220 seat lecture hall, state-of-the-art DNA sequencing and wet laboratories, a computer facility, office space and a cafeteria all in an interconnected campus.
PK Role
Poole and Kent served dually as the design/build general contractor and mechanical contractor on this project. In our role as the mechanical contractor, Poole and Kent performed both the mechanical and plumbing system, complementing our role as the general contractor and enabling our team to provide value engineering and design solutions throughout the duration of the project.
Highlights/Challenges
The TIGR facility is a true example of design/build project delivery. Despite the strict construction schedule, Poole and Kent was able to minimize coordination issues, and complete the timely and accurate installation of the mechanical systems.
