The Project
The University of Maryland seeks to provide outstanding research facilities unique to the region and the nation. The Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology (CARB II) facility is a staple in the biotechnological research industry and will feature state-of-the-art GMP laboratories with the latest innovations in equipment and laboratory design.
PK Role
As the mechanical contractor, Poole and Kent is currently performing the installation for the following systems/equipment: new GMP laboratories, mechanical piping systems consisting of (2) 450 ton chillers, (2) 350 HP boilers, (3) 450 ton cooling towers, complete HVAC system consisting of (25) air handling units and (350) variable air volume terminal units and air distribution duct systems, complete plumbing system consisting of laboratory grade equipment, kill tanks and laboratory grade air vacuum equipment, complete Operation Energy Management and Control System (EMCS) and an independent Laboratory Control System (LCS), which will be fully integrated with the (EMCS), complete Reverse Osmosis and Deionized water system and an independent RO/DI GMP water system, pure steam generator complete with the steam distribution piping to be fully integrated with laboratory grade experimental equipment, and complete natural gas service.
